Komodo National Park lies between the two islands of Sumbawa and Flores island between the border of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) and Nusa Tenggara Barat (NTB). Here there are three major islands or island is a great bit of the island of Komodo, Rinca and Padar Island and the rest are small islands with a land area of ​​603 km2. Total area of ​​Komodo National Park now is 1917 km2.

 

Komodo Island National Park History

Komodo National Park is found around 1980 and has been in the state one of the world that need to be protected and biosphere reserve by the UNESCO in 1986. National Park was originally in the form in order to melesatarikan species unique and rare Dragon (dragons) are in the know with scientific language Varanus komodoensis which was first found by JKH Van Steyn about the year 1911. After that the Komodo Dragon is not only protected but all good biodiversity of marine and terrestrial conservation areas included in the Komodo National Park.

The majority of people who lived on the island of Komodo and surroundings are fishermen who come from Bima (Sumbawa), Manggara, South Flores, South Sulawesi, which originated from Bugis Bajau tribe. Bajau tribe originally lived as a nomadic tribe who are happy to move from one place to other places.

 

The original inhabitants of Komodo Island is people Ata Modo tribes that still exist on the island of Komodo, but in line with other migrants from the blood, indigenous cultures and languages have mingled with the newcomers.
